Tammy Birds

Raised in my home for yours.

My name is Tammy and I am a hobby breeder who's focus is on small to medium sized parrots. I have over 10 years of experience with raising and caring for birds. Each baby weans at their own pace and is fed a variety of foods. On each species page you'll find an overview of the birds I currently have for sale.

If you have little to no experience with avian companionship, I strongly suggest you take a moment to read the following condensed introduction to bird ownership.

Which is the right bird for you...Are you right for the bird?

Do you work long hours or travel frequently? Do you have small children, dogs or cats?

These are some of the questions you should be asking yourself, and be prepared to answer, before contacting me.

Owning a bird is a commitment in varying degrees. Your lifestyle, availability, and willingness to properly care for an animal are just the tip of the iceberg. Birds, in general, can't be domesticated like dogs and cats. Their natural instincts remain despite being handled by humans from birth. Birds can be loud and temperamental. They'll chew and poop on whatever and wherever they please.

More often than not, it is you that will have to adapt to the bird, not the other way around. Letting them be themselves is key to their happiness.

Keep all of this in mind when choosing a bird because some species can be expected to live 50 years or more if properly cared for. Birds are not fashions, playthings or fads. If you want a bird because little Johnny seems bored, or a celebrity has one or because you just think it's “cool”, please take your business elsewhere.

About talking.

Talking birds imitate human speech. How much one learns is dependent upon intelligence and communication capabilities specific to the species and on an individual basis. Even so, talking ability isn't guaranteed and by no means should be the sole criterion for choosing your pet.

Do your homework.

There are other websites and resources in print that cover bird care and behavior better than I can. Please visit my favorites on my Links page.

Informed questions are expected and appreciated. Once you have done the research and are serious about making a purchase, I'm more than happy to assist you. However, general questions – for the sake of an easy answer without intent of buying – are a waste of my time. This is my hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun.
